As discussed earlier the reasons for closing the clinic in September were the challenge of compromised guidance on screening, the rising levels of Delta variant in the community, national reduction in lockdown rules and emerging evidence that people can transmit Delta post vaccination.
The current opinion of the UK Government and British Acupuncture Council is that screening is best done by asking about a new continuous cough, high fever or recent loss of taste or smell (1).The Zoe COVID study reports that COVID-19 infection is now associated with a range of symptoms more in keeping with the common cold (2). This has been reported by major private healthcare providers (3).
In the interest of managing risk of exposure in the clinic, it makes sense to add additional symptom questions to the required list making the screening protocol more robust and consistent with the reality on the ground.
